About Us

Co-Founder Annie Kaskade has a B.A. in both Engineering and French from Dartmouth College, an M.S. in civil/environmental engineering from University of Colorado, Boulder, she is a licensed Professional Engineer in civil engineering, and she has over 15 years of experience in the public and private sector of civil and environmental engineering, predominantly in water and wastewater systems.  After having children and learning about the tremendous environmental pollution impact of conventional cotton, she realized the necessity of change, yet it was difficult to find a shopping site with a comprehensive product selection, style, and size range for both boys and girls.  And, she is convinced that most people have no idea how clothes are made…because once you know, you never shop the same way again!

Co-Founder Jim Kaskade is an ideal partner, with a B.S. in electrical engineering  from the University of California Santa Barbara, an M.B.A. from the University of San Diego and 20 years of experience in marketing, retail data warehousing, digital media, social media marketing, and internet business development.  He thrives on making positive change, and on entrepreneurial challenges.

As we learned about the benefits of organic cotton and hemp, the value of fair trade and made in USA, and the other compelling reasons to buy sustainable clothing, we realized we needed to change our ways. Yet when we searched for eco-friendly children’s clothing, we couldn’t find a store offering the selection, information, and ease of use that we were looking for. We decided to establish GreenEdge Kids to meet this need.

We believe there are many people who want to do the right thing when it comes to protecting the environment and being socially responsible. Yet when it comes to clothing, most of us don’t even know what that means. GreenEdge Kids makes it easy to find children’s clothing that is both cool fashion for kids AND eco-friendly.

Our approach to style is simple…we look hard and long to find and develop cool clothes in the 2-14 size range.   Of course we do some research on what is hot and what is not, and what kids of various ages wear and like, but mostly we seek out styles that perfectly blend creative expression with functionality and value.  Each season is bringing better and better selection as demand for eco conscious clothing gains momentum.

In our Being Green section, we have described the manufacture of conventional clothing, and the toxic problems associated with every step. We have also explained what it means to be green. Sustainable fabrics (like hemp, organic cotton, bamboo, wild silk recycled fabric, or Tencel), fair trade, made in the USA, low impact dyes, and dye-free fabric are all important. The trail from cotton plant to shirt or pants is a long and complicated one, involving many parties and processes, so we don’t expect to be purists…but we do expect to make a difference.

GreenEdge Kids offers what we think is the best and the largest selection out there of organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, Tencel, made in USA, fair trade, and otherwise sustainable or eco-friendly children’s clothes - so you don’t have to search all over the place to get your kids to look good, feel good and be green.

We value your opinion as our site develops and hope you will take the time to give us your feedback in the Contact Us section. Thank you for shopping at GreenEdge Kids!
