Soybean fibers are spun from a by-product of edible soybean oil production, without the intensive use of chemicals. Soy protein is liquefied and then extended into long, continuous fibers that are then cut and processed like any other spinning fiber. Soy is a sustainable textile fiber made from renewable and biodegradable resources, making it one of the better choices for eco-friendly materials.
It has a natural golden color, is soft with light-reflecting properties, and it feels similar to cashmere. It is absorbent, warm, resistant to bacteria and UV rays and when discarded is biodegradable, whereas many other fabrics are not. It is machine washable, but must be line-dried or dried at low settings to prevent shrinkage.
