Walking the Talk
Throughout our site, we advocate buying organic kids’ clothes over conventionally manufactured clothing, but how green is GreenEdge Kids?
Currently, GreenEdge Kids’ sustainable business practices include:
- Operating as a Green America (formerly Co-Op America) approved business
- Purchasing preferentially from the most sustainable clothing manufacturers
- Shipping with reused shipping boxes, USA-made 100% post consumer recycled envelopes, and reused packing supplies
- Gift wrapping with 40-100% post-consumer waste recycled paper tissue and boxes
- Printing promotional materials, business cards, and hang tags with soy-based inks on hemp or USA-made 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper
- Re-using paper, hang tags, boxes, and all other materials possible to minimize waste
- Exhibiting with display racks made of recycled construction waste wood, hangers made of recycled/fully recyclable cardboard, and a fully biodegradable banner
- Selecting the most sustainable products for every office supply purchase…even our checks are printed with soy-based inks on recycled paper!
- Purchasing carbon offsets from Native Energy for 100% of GreenEdge Kids’ energy consumption, including shipping (GreenEdge Kids Goes Carbon Neutral)
- Donating $1 of every GreenEdge Kids Brand purchase (t-shirts, cargos, jeans, hats, lip balm) to Arbor Day Foundation, which plants a tree for every $1 donated
- Traveling by train, bike, or carpool
- Manufacturing in the USA, using high quality sustainable fabrics
- Operating as a Green Directory Montana certified business
These measures are just the beginning, and we will continue to add to this section.

2009 Community Involvment
GreenEdge Kids believes change happens in our own communities, and we need to be involved. Although we also like 1% for the Planet, we have chosen to direct our donation dollars to specific community-, children- and environment-themed initiatives. In 2009, our efforts have included:
- Donating organic kids clothing to the Sandy Hill Nursery School (located in Solana Beach, CA) silent auction fundraiser. GreenEdge Kids has supported Sandy Hill’s efforts to green all of its fundraisers in 2008-09.
- Donating organic kids clothing to the Santa Fe Montessori (located in Solana Beach) silent auction fundraiser.
- Volunteering with the Solana Beach School District to advocate earth-themed events and activities that encourage respect for the planet and reduction of the schools’ carbon footprint.
2008 Community Involvment
In 2008, our efforts have included:
- Donating to the Cardiff Elementary School (located in Encinitas, CA) and participating in the Cardiff Environmental Awareness event.
- Donating to Heifer International as part of a boutique show at a private residence
- Presenting a parent education seminar on “why you should care and what you can do” to protect our planet. Presentation materials were also shared with various girl scout troops.
- Donating estimated 3% of sales to Endangered Planet, an organization in Laguna Beach, CA dedicated to teaching children to care for the environment through art
- Donating raffle gifts to the City of Solana Beach for Beach Blanket Movie Night, in support of the City of Solana Beach Parks and Recreation Department
- Volunteering in the City of Solana Beach to support city-wide changes that reduce its carbon footprint
