Why do you have more selection for sizes 2 through 8, and less for sizes 10 and 12?
We know this is a problem, and we are working on it. Manufacturers tend to make what they know they can sell, and until now, the organic and eco-friendly clothing market has been focused on babies and adults. It is gradually moving toward older children, but while we are waiting for more products to become available, we will continue to expand the GreenEdge Kids line to fill the gaps. We have some very exciting products lining up for fall 2008.
Is eco-friendly clothing more expensive than conventional clothing?
We actually don’t think it is, especially when you consider the quality differences. We are not attempting to compete with companies like Target or Wal-Mart, because extra-low prices generally do not reflect the actual costs of clothing production when workers are paid fairly and safe labor practices are employed. If you are trying to go green, but the discount shopping habit is dying hard, consider re-thinking your shopping strategy: choose more mix-and-match basics, and buy less. Also, subscribe to our newsletter, and you will receive great discounts for GreenEdge Kids products.
Can you get me a different color or size of an item that I know is made by a particular manufacturer?
Unfortunately, because of minimum order requirements, it is difficult for us to special order single items from manufacturers. Many of the brands we carry also operate their own online retail shops though, so you may still have some luck finding what are looking for. If there is a brand or style you wish we carried, tell us please, so we can adjust our buying decisions in the future.
Do I have to pay sales tax?
California state law requires that we charge sales tax for all shipments being mailed to a California location, as we have a physical presence located in California. We do not charge sales tax for orders shipped out of the country or out of the state. For more information, you may also contact the California State Board of Equalization.
How do you determine your shipping fees?
Each item we sell has its weight and dimensions entered into the e-commerce database. UPS shipping rates are based on both weight and dimensions, as well as locations. When you select a shipping method, UPS uses this data, along with your ship-to address, to estimate shipping cost. Actual costs vary somewhat from the estimated costs you pay at checkout because items are combined and placed in variously sized boxes, and the estimate is, after all, only an estimate. We try to keep the UPS estimator adjusted to it is very close (within $1-2 ) to the actual shipping cost, so that we do not lose or gain much money in shipping.
As we grow and ship more, we may get some slightly better rates from UPS, but the primary reason for high shipping costs is the high price of fuel. UPS adjusts its fuel surcharge weekly, and it is higher than ever right now. For very small packages, the US Postal Service can be less expensive, but the price difference is slight, and we have chosen to consistently use UPS because of its superior insurance, tracking, and e-commerce integration.
